our {diy} dining room project

ever since we moved into our house i have been wanting to put some wainscot in one of our rooms, but had no idea where to start or how to do it. the second we moved in i bought this amazing wallpaper because i thought it would be just perfect in our dining room area...well little did i know that one roll was just not enough to cover the walls i wanted to cover. & for the price i paid for one roll i was just not ok with getting another roll for just a few more square feet. so it hit me that i should put the wainscot in the dining room!! brilliant idea, right?!?! i was pretty excited!! so anyways, we are finally getting around to it...heres to hoping it will be finished this weekend! wallpaper and all!! i know my baby is due today, but i'm still having no regular contractions or anything. so i'm hoping this will maybe get him to want to come out!! (fingers crossed) heres to nesting!!

instructions for a faux wainscot

what you will need:
wood glue
nails
hammer or nail gun
putty
sand paper
&
 wood

step 1.

we measured out the walls to see how much wood we would need. we figured that we wanted it to be about 5 ft high, so we bought 6 (10 ft) at $7 & had them cut in half (they cut them for your for free) now you need a top piece so measure out how long of a piece you will need & just have home depot or lowes cut it to your size.

step 2.
make sure you have everything measured perfectly! nick is a perfectionist so i had him do it! the only mistake we made was on the top pieces we forgot to measure a little less (so the board wouldn't overlap...if that makes sense?!)

step 3.
start nailing everything in place!! :) this was a job for two for sure!! it would have been a lot harder for nick if i wasn't there to make sure everything was centered and to hold the boards for him! make sure and put the wood glue on the board before you nail it in. its just a little added security that those boards aren't going anywhere!

step 4.
fill in all of the nail holes with putty, let dry for an hour or more. then, sand all of them down.

step 5.
primer all of the wood

step 6.
paint with the color of your choice (we chose white, obviously!) :)

& WALAAAA! you are all done!! easy, right?!?

and we FINALLY got the wallpaper finished last night!! so this is what is looks like! nick was so sweet to get it done so fast! i was stressing about it not being done before the baby comes, not that it even mattered! haha. its totally that nesting thing!! ;)

so a LOT has been happening around our house trying to get ready for this baby. as you can see my belly has like tripled in size, it is so wierd! nick looked at me one night & was like a little in shock & said, "you are really pregnant, it's actually starting to feel real now!" it has been so much fun shopping for this little guy! i live right down the street from the CUTEST boutique called oopsie daisy, i have spent countless hours in that store, so many fun things for babies!!! i still have so much to get still, it's crazy once you register how much you realize you need! i started getting a bunch of books for his collection & that has been so fun! i was talking to my mom one night about all of the old books she used to read us as kids & she started naming off all of these titles, it brought back such fun memories! so of course right after i hung up with her i went online and found a bunch of the old school books that you cant find in stores on barnes & noble.com! i am so excited to read to kruz every night! that was always my favorite part of the night when my mom would read to me! we also got our shutters installed this week & can i tell you how HAPPY we are that they are finally in!?!?! we're so happy to finally have a little privacy from our busy street & the rio tinto building that is literally across the street from us! im sure they're going to miss seeing us wake up in the morning & eat our breakfast! haha.

so when we have a break from our crazy schedules, our favorite thing to do is work on the house & do tiny little upgrades! nick has been working away trying to get the garage up to par for his taste! my dad has an epoxy finish on his garage in california and nick absolutely loved it! so this past week nick added an epoxy finish to his garage floor/ mancave! it looks really good, i was so worried because nick wanted to do it himself and i remember when the guys were working on my dads & knowing how long it took pros to do it made me a little worried about nick doing this by himself. anyways, it looks awesome and he loves it!! him & a guy he hired painted the walls, he added track lighting down there & we added a speaker system throughout our house and in the garage so it really is turing into a mancave!! haha. im so impressed how its coming along, i cant wait to see the cabinets in there once they are installed. we also just started getting kruz's room ready! we painted the other day & i LOVE it! it is exactly what i wanted! now we just need furniture & to install his chandelier! we are also waiting for our new plantation shutters to be installed as well! we are so excited for them since we have been living with out blinds for the past couple months! it has been a challenge to say the LEAST! so thanks to my amazing grandma & parents for spoiling us with blinds for our entire house!! isn't it funny once you start growing up how you would rather have things for your house?? i love it!
